Terletak di pantai Atlantik Portugal dengan jarak 28 km dari ibukota Lisbon, sirkuit Estoril digunakan pada ajang balapan MotoGP untuk pertama kalinya pada tahun 2000. Dibangun pada tahun 1972 oleh Fernanda Pires da Silva awal mulanya digunakan untuk balapan F2 Eropa pada tahun 70-an dan setelah pembangunan kembali di awal tahun 80-an sirkuit tersebut dipakai untuk ajang balapan Formula 1 tepatnya pada tahun 1984. Estoril merupakan salah satu trek paling sulit di kalender GP, dengan menggabungkan panjang, sudut radius konstan dengan zona pengereman lumayan sulit, lurus bergelombang dan chicane yang sulit, variasi trek tersebut ditambahkan pada tahun 1994. Posisi geografis cuaca yang tidak dapat diprediksi, meskipun pada umumnya hangat, alam kering membuatnya menjadi pilihan untuk pra-musim sesi pengujian.
