Before & After: Tween Queen Dream

Do you remember your room growing up?  I do...my mother wallpapered it in this questionable floral wallpaper and painted the trim mauve.  Yes, I said mauve (it was the 80's after all).

She did it all while I was gone and I hated it.  Ugh!  I swore I would never do that to my daughter.  When I had a daughter,  I would let her pick out whatever she wanted.

So instead of doing it to my daughter, I did it to Greg's daughter!   Ha!  Well, let's just hope I have better taste thann my mom did.

Here is her room before:

I know, right?  Ugh!  Believe it or not, she lived like this for a year.  Did you even notice that window border?  And the red/peach/orange walls!  I just couldn't look at it anymore.  She was out of town with her mother for a week and I decided it was the perfect time to give her room a face lift.

Here are the stats:

She is ten (think tween)
Fugly light HAD to go
Wall color had to go
Window shades had to go
Everything else pretty much had to stay because (see next line)
We had almost NO budget to work with
Everything that went up had to be able to come down considering our house is a rental

In progress....

Here is the after (sorry about the bad pics folks):

This light is actually plastic...but perfect for a tween.  The roman shades are from Pottery Barn Teen.

The storage piece is from Ikea.  Very tween with the high gloss pink and black baskets.

The walls had to be neutral so we wouldn't have to repaint before we left. I chose a soft gray I just LOVE, Benjamin Moore's Abalone.

Greg's daughter LOVED it.  She was so surprised, in a good way!  (Thank goodness!)

I would love to do more to the room but we just basically had to make it livable for another year or two.  I'm already thinking of ideas for her room for when we buy!
