ORC Week Two...The Ugly Post

Just a warning, this post is all about layout and measurements...the "un-fun" part of Interior Design.

On first glance, this room sucks when it comes to layout.

Crude sketch, keepin' it real folks

The only bed size that fits in here is a twin, and that must be pushed against the wall.  So the twin bunk beds have to stay for Piper and Peyton. And because of the radiator (love that radiant heat!) the bunk beds only fit in this one spot against the wall with the door.  Not ideal, but we have to work with it!

As you know from reading the first ORC post, the girls also need some maj storage for all of their dolls, toys, and trinkets because as you can see here, the storage we attempted at first just isn't cuttin' it.

So the key is to find good and pretty storage that we can arrange around the room, while still having a large play area for the girls.

This is what I came up with:

The Ikea Expedit flipped on its side is the perfect height for under the windows.

Using a long and short one together equal the perfect length.  The only bummer is that since the short one only comes in white, we are limited to using the white expedite series if we want the shelf to look cohesive.  But we are using the high gloss, extra shiny, lacquered looking white, so its still pretty cool for the kiddos.

Next to the beds on the East wall I've selected the Ikea Ivar Shelves.

Now, stop freaking out....I have something up my sleeve to make them pretty.  The key right now is that the size is perfect for the space, the shelves will fit a lot of toys, and the price is right at under $130.

If you check out the plans, I've also changed around the closets.

This house was built in the 30's so the closets are all over the place strange and impractical.

Greg's closet right now is so long and narrow that he can barely get into the back end of it.  However....if we take the rod out and the door off, it will be the perfect little dressing room / secret hang out for the pint sized girls. Their dresser just BARELY fits in the end of it (according to measurements) so fingers crossed we can actually wedge it back there.

Now that we have the plans down, next up is to begin taping off and painting the mustard ugliness!

Now let's see how the other blogger's rooms are coming a long!
