High Point Market 2013 Trend Watch

Yours Truly at Four Hands
If you have ever been to HP Market, you know how incredibly inspiring, overwhelming, and completely exhausting it all is.  It's basically the fashion week of furniture and home accessories, only unfortunately sofas can't walk themselves down the runway so we go to all of the different showrooms to see everything.  By the end of each day you basically want to saw your feet off and take about six Advil.

My goals for this HP Market were to scout out new trends, find some new vendors with fresh products I can use in future designs, and to test furniture comfortability of lines I'm thinking about using in the future.

But I know all you care about are the trends, so here are the trends I personally spotted during my marathon day at High Point Market 2013.  (Please note, these are real-time snapshots from my iPhone at market.  Sorry for any blurriness or general bad photography!)

Gold
Well ladies, they are finally catching on to us.  In the past I feel like we have been spray painting everything in site gold and the furniture manufacturers had their heads in the sand in denial, still wanting chrome to make a comeback.  But now, I noticed that manufacturers either got it, and in a big way, or were still in denial without a lick of gold on their showroom floor.  Here's who got it right:

Red Lacquer
Although Blue is Pantone's Color of the Year for 2014, I feel like I saw a lot of red.  Particularly red in lacquered accents.

Currey & Co.

Lavender and Turquoise
Although I expected a lot of turquoise, I was surprised to see the amount of Lavender that I saw.  Lavender was center stage in upholstery while turquoise was used as a complement.  Turquoise nailhead trim was a big feature.

Kilim Rugs
Everywhere I looked, I saw Kilim Patterned rugs.  Knock-offs of originals, and pile carpets with printed Kilim designs (think aztec) were all the rage.  In most cases, the Kilim inspired rugs were actually more expensive than original Kilim rugs (!).

Loloi Cotton Rugs
Acrylic
With big box stores such as Crate & Barrel already jumping on the acrylic trend I was expecting to see it all over the place.  However it seems like higher end manufacturers were testing it out in smaller details before fully committing this year.
